Crediting the Original Public Domain Composer

Enter the historical creator in Original Composer. This preserves attribution but does not create a modern Contributor ownership assignment. CatalogIQOS therefore does not flag a public-domain original composer for missing PRO, IPI, splits, or publisher administration.

Create canonical Contributors for living or controlled arrangers and other current parties. Store their identifiers in the directory and their track-specific control on the arrangement relationship.

Keep the original title as it appears in the source you reviewed, and use the source-edition note for catalog numbers, editors, translations, or other distinctions. Historical attribution can be important for discovery, cue documentation, and respectful metadata even when it is not a current ownership claim. Do not invent an IPI or PRO affiliation, create a placeholder publisher, or force the historical composer into a 100% modern split merely to make a readiness score pass. If an estate, adaptation, translation, or protected edition is involved, record the actual current parties and change the underlying-work status when appropriate. Audit intentionally treats attribution separately from modern claimant validation.
